Local Resolution Victories

Just ahead of the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Milwaukee, WI passed a resolution blocking lucrative contracts for corporations cited for Katrina or Rita-related waste, fraud or mismanagement. Construction giant CH2M Hill will lose the ability to bid on nearly $30 million dollars in previously held contracts as a result of the resolution. In addition, Erie, PA also demanded action by Congress and the President on behalf of Katrina survivors.

FEMA recalls toxic trailers but still needs to act

Thanks to thousands of us working together, FEMA is recalling its toxic trailers found to be laced with formaldehyde and other toxins. However, FEMA must still act immediately to provide safe sustainable housing to all internally displaced residents in the Gulf.

The Gulf has many units of open housing stock, public housing and other options for sustainable housing that must be implemented to ensure that those displaced have real places to live. Efforts to demolish good quality housing in order to make way for real estate speculation must be stopped immediately.
